The Good, The Bad and The Nasties

So we keep on going about all the horrible stuff inside hair products, but we haven’t explained why they are so awful for your beautiful locks.

Here at Hasluck’s we want to educate as we live in a age where we as a society are more aware of the things we put in and onto our bodies. Also we really don’t want to have that awkward moment in Sainsbury’s Shampoo aisle, you know the one where your looking at herbal essence and i’m just like “NO HUN put the bottle down and step away from the product”.

We hope after reading this you are more aware and we promise you won’t want to touch a product with the nasties in it again.

Let’s start by delving into the 1st nasty product:

Parabens

So what actually are parabens then? Parabens were invented in the 1950s and put into products to increase there shelf life. Why is that bad? It’s a strong chemical and recent studies have showed that parabens can penetrate the skin, enter your body and stay within the skin cells. The study did not prove that parabens caused cancer, however a British study of Parabens showed that they disrupt hormones levels, one of them being oestrogen. what is oestrogen you say? Oestrogen is a sex hormone that both men and women create naturally (men less obviously) it helps the growth of breast tissue during puberty, regulates bone health and menstrual cycle but also has an affect on your mood. Therefore with more oestrogen in our body, this leads to more breast cellular division which leads to growth of tumours… need I say more?

I mean what the actual hell! It’s disgusting that companies are allowed to put this in to products so freely when the majority of the public are blissfully unaware.

Which is why at Hasluck’s we use paraben free products with much better ingredients created by our fabulous friends at EVO and MOROCCANOIL.

Sulphates and Phosphates

The long and short is that sulphates and phosphates are the things that make your products lather up. They draw out the oil and water and allow them to be washed away. Now you’re thinking that’s not bad right? Yes your partially correct but studies have shown that shampoos with sulphates and phosphates in them leave the hair dry, increase frizz and make it brittle, it can also leave the scalp irritated. There are alternatives and at Hasluck’s you guessed it - the EVO and MOROCCANOIL range, is free from sulphates and phosphates.

Silicone

Now Silicone is a slippery one (pardon the pun) because it leaves the hair feeling silky smooth, but what you’ve actually done is coated it in a synthetic fibre. Yes it feels great now but give it a couple of weeks as you have basically put a waterproof coat over you hair. You’ve stopped all the good stuff getting in and trapped all the horrible stuff in. In the long run, isn’t good for your hair. Not that we like repeating ourselves but again at Hasluck’s we tend to avoid silicone in shampoo/conditioners where possible.

Basically stay away from products with Parabens, Sulphates, Phosphates and Silicone in, you don’t want me to explain it again do you?!

So now you have been enlightened, graced by the hair gods and have found your way though the desert to reach the oasis. You have no excuses, don’t mistreat your hair with substandard products don’t do it to yourself your worth so much more and so is your hair.

Stay Lucky

A fabulous experience with Ben. At last I have total confidence in giving Ben control of my difficult curly hair! After 30 years not being in a salon, I have re booked again.

HIGHLY recommended indeed!!
